I wanted to make this homily about family. It’s the feast of the holy family, what better time to talk about it.
The Church has so many wonderful things to say about it: the domestic church, the school of holiness, the icon of the Trinity.
But God said no, that would be putting the cart before the horse.
If we want to know the lesson hidden in our Gospel, it is simple and clear:
Find Jesus, and never leave Him.
“Son, why have you done this to us?
Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.”
And he said to them,
“Why were you looking for me?
Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
Did Mary and Joseph look for Jesus because he was their child, or did they look for him because he was God?
The question for us to ponder, isn’t why we look for Jesus, but why we ever look for anything else.
May we ponder these things in our hearts, and live with Jesus, for all eternity.
